OUR STORY
One Man Saw What Others Didn't
Before the Museum was created, there were years of research. While travelling across India and Pakistan, retired IAS officer Damanbir Singh Jaspal documented sacred trees linked to Sikh history, many of them centuries old. He realised that recording their stories wasn’t enough—the trees themselves needed to be preserved for future generations.
His research became the book Tryst with Trees: Punjab’s Sacred Heritage and laid the foundation for a much larger vision. With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, that vision became the Museum of Trees—India’s first living museum dedicated to preserving sacred tree heritage.
2008
A Vision Takes Root
The journey began with a powerful vision—to preserve historically significant trees and the stories they carry before they were lost to time.
2010
Museum Established
With support from the Ministry of Culture and Government of India, the Museum of Trees was formally established in 2010.
2010-2025
Growing Collection
Over the years, sacred and heritage trees from across India and Pakistan were scientifically propagated and preserved.
Today
Continuing the Legacy
Today, the Museum of Trees welcomes visitors, researchers and students from around the world, continuing to protect living heritage.
Our Vision
Growing a Living Legacy
We envision a future where every historically significant tree is preserved—not only as a botanical specimen but as a living witness to our shared heritage. Through conservation, education, and research, we hope to inspire future generations to value the stories rooted in nature.
Our Mission
Preserving Nature, History & Memory
At the Museum of Trees, we believe every tree is a living witness to history. Our mission is to safeguard these invaluable natural monuments through scientific preservation, research, and conservation, ensuring that their stories endure beyond time.
Through authentic living replicas, educational initiatives, exhibitions, and community outreach, we aim to bridge the gap between nature and people. By preserving these trees and the legacies they carry, we inspire future generations to value, protect, and celebrate our shared natural and cultural heritage.
OUR LEGACY
A Family That Chose to Continue the Story
What began as one man’s vision has become a shared family commitment. Today, the next generation continues his mission with the same passion and dedication—preserving not only remarkable trees, but also the memories, histories, and values they represent.
United by a deep respect for nature and heritage, the family works together to ensure that the Museum of Trees continues to grow as a place of conservation, education, and inspiration for generations to come.
Our Publication
The Book That Started It All
Tryst with Trees: Punjab’s Sacred Heritage, written by Damanbir Singh Jaspal, is the result of years of dedicated research documenting the sacred and historically significant trees associated with Sikh gurudwaras across India and Pakistan. More than a publication, it became a powerful record of the deep cultural, spiritual, and historical connections between these trees and the communities that have cherished them for generations.
Our Team
Meet the People Behind the Museum
Behind every preserved tree is a passionate team of conservationists, researchers, educators, and family members working together to protect living heritage and share its stories with the world.
